The Single Tax League of Massachusetts was a chapter of the national organization, proponent of the land value tax theory, developed by economist Henry George, also called Georgism. Businessman Charles B. Fillebrown served as chapter president from 1899 to 1909. Records consist of: Series I - responses to surveys distributed by Fillebrown to members of the American Economic Association, which were used to establish a standardized taxation vocabulary among economists; Series II - responses to Single Tax League banquets held in Boston, which were used to propagandize in favor of the single tax theory; Series III - correspondence with economists, including Edwin R.A. Seligman, C.W Mixter, Delos F. Wilcox, and Charles J. Bullock. Guide to the collection available.
